Anglian Recycling, our waste recycling division, was chosen as the sustainable waste partner for Norwich Wine Week, in collaboration with Norwich BID.
As part of our five-year partnership with Norwich BID, we were chosen to manage recycling for this debut event for 2023. Our aim was to reduce the general waste of the event, and recycle as much as possible.
Norwich Wine Week was a two-day festival, celebrating the up-and-coming wine scene across Norfolk. As well as being partnered with venues across the city, there was the main event, taking place in Chapelfield Gardens.
For this, we were able to provide effective waste management by supplying glass bins, mixed recycling bins, food waste bins, and general waste bins. Our mission was to help make the event as sustainable as possible.
In total, we recycled 528kg of glass, and 531kg of mixed recycling; leaving just 640kg to go to general waste. This means that Norwich Wine Week had a recycling rate of 62%, with the other 38% going for RDF (refuse-derived fuel) resulting in zero-waste going to landfill.
Recycling glass is hugely important as it is one of very few materials that can be recycled endlessly without the quality deteriorating. By recycling bottles at this event, we were able to save approximately 133kg of carbon emissions harming our environment. This glass will now go back into manufacturing more bottles for future use – maybe even going back into wine bottles!
